ABUJA, NIGERIA — President Bola Tinubu has locked down his economic strategy, declaring that Nigeria has crossed its metaphorical Red Sea and will never go back to Egypt. Addressing a crowd of youth supporters at the State House, Tinubu maintained that he has zero regrets about ending the multi-billion naira petrol subsidy regime, describing it as a necessary rescue mission from national bankruptcy.
The President likened the country's painful economic reforms to the historic biblical exodus led by Moses. He asserted that reverting to the subsidy era would mean returning to the economic bondage that hollowed out the national treasury.
He criticized opposition calls for a subsidy reversal as mere political bait, reiterating that the administration's fiscal changes are aimed at securing long-term economic independence.
Supporting the hardline stance, Vice President Kashim Shettima also spoke at the event, warning that the national economy would have faced complete collapse had the subsidy not been removed. Despite ongoing public welfare struggles, the presidency has made its position clear ahead of future political cycles: the era of cheap, subsidized fuel is permanently over.
